Mathematical Modeling to Estimate the Diffusion of Traffic-Related Air Pollutants in Almaty City
this article discusses the distribution of emissions of pollutants from traffic congestion at the intersections in Almaty city transport network. A mathematical model has been developed by using a recurrent operator method for modeling and calculating the spread of harmful impurities in the urban environment. To solve partial differential equations of the second order, integral-differential operators are introduced in the form of a special series with constant coefficients determined from the recurrence relations associated with the differential equation in question. The particular solutions obtained in this case are relatively simpler, since they were based on a single recurrence relation, which leads to simpler differentiation formulas. Based on the approach, the general solutions were proposed in terms of arbitrary functions and are not related to the solution with the definition of the roots of the characteristic equation of the function. The obtained results were illustrated graphically and given in tables.

The subfamily Gentianinae includes approximately 425 species, with the majority belonging to the well-researched genus Gentiana. These species are primarily distributed across the Eurasian continent. The Gentianaceae family, known for its many bioactive compounds, is traditionally used in medicine as an antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, digestive aid, antidepressant, and antianemic agent. The Gentiana olivieri is also used as a bitter tonic stimulant of appetite and food in traditional Kazakh medicine. The ecological monitoring and geobotanical evaluation of G. olivieri populations in a variety of environments in southeast Kazakhstan are presented in this work.Fieldwork in May 2023 focused on G. olivieri flowering specimens in three different areas: the Ile River floodplain, Arkharly Ridge and Arkharly Pass in Zhetysu Region and Degeres-say Gorge in the Almaty region.Using identification guidelines and local herbarium resources, plant materials were confirmed.Geobotanical surveys analyzed population dynamics, including generative and vegetative individuals, growth metrics, and ecological circumstances, using route-reconnaissance methods and Drude's abundance scale. The study area has a variety of soil types and topographies, including serozem, dark chestnut, and meadow-chernozem soils. The distribution and vitality of G. olivieri are influenced by temperature, precipitation, and soil composition fluctuations, as demonstrated by soil and meteorological data collected in 2023-2024.The results show that there are three primary populations, each with unique phytocenotic and ecological circumstances.Whereas the populations on Arkharly Ridge and the floodplain of the Ile River exhibit distinct floristic compositions and environmental interactions, the Degeres-say Gorge sustains a high density of G. olivieri in dense clonal groups.According to the investigation, G. olivieri exhibits remarkable ecological adaptability, with populations flourishing in a variety of environments despite pressure from humans. The abundance of commercially useful species found in these areas' vegetation, such as fodder and medicinal plants, highlights the importance of G. olivieri ecosystems from both an ecological and financial standpoint. Results indicated that humus content across all soil samples was below 2% (very low), with a highly alkaline PH.CO2 levels were low, while phosphorus and potassium reserves were significant among the mobile forms of nutrients.Mobile phosphorus levels in the upper soil horizons (0-15 cm) ranged from 160 to 450 mg/kg, and potassium levels ranged from 150 to 450 mg/kg.Mobile nitrogen content was between 30 and 40 mg/kg.Granulometric analysis showed that coarse dust fractions predominated in all soil sections. The findings suggest that G. olivieri populations are well-adapted to their diverse habitats but require conservation measures to mitigate anthropogenic impacts. This comprehensive study provides valuable insights into the ecological status and distribution of G. olivieri, contributing to the understanding and preservation of this medicinal plant species in southeastern Kazakhstan.

Tourist flow has a positive impact on the economy, culture, environment and communities of countries and regions, making it a valuable asset and contributing to the development of historical sites, cultural heritage and traditions, attracting visitors interested in learning about local customs. Tourist flow stimulates investment in infrastructure such as transport, accommodation and tourist facilities, and improves the quality of life of local residents and visiting tourists. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the current state and prospects for the development of tourist flow in the city of Almaty. The study was based on the statistical data of Almaty city for the last 10 years (2014-2023) and answers to the questions of the questionnaire for entrepreneurs. Statistical data were received from the National Statistical Bureau of the Republic of Kazakhstan and analyses were carried out from 19.01.2024 to 25.02.2024. Also in the study, we conducted a survey aimed at identifying the main problems of entrepreneurs in increasing tourist flow and selected the responses of 211 entrepreneurs (respondents). According to the results of the study, the number of foreign tourists arriving in Kazakhstan in 2014 was 679.0 thousand tourists, and in 2023 this figure increased to 1084.8 thousand tourists. Compared to 2022, the number of foreign tourists increased by 16.9%. The number of foreign tourists arriving in Almaty in 2023 was 261571 and domestic tourists were 710586. Thanks to inbound tourists, the share of tourism in the gross domestic product (GDP) of Almaty reached 11.3%. To increase the tourist flow to Almaty, it is first of all important to make the infrastructure more convenient and attractive for tourists. Thus, to attract more tourists from different regions and countries, it is necessary to invest in marketing and advertising campaigns and offer tours for active holidays such as cultural events, culinary festivals, hiking and skiing. This study identifying the current status and prospects of tourist flow in Almaty city aims to improve the quality of tourism services, income, employment, and tourist flow and contribute to the literature.

The purpose of this paper is to experimentally establish quantitative indicators, relationships and dependencies on the depth of characteristics (amount, duration and minimum temperature) of freeze-thaw cycles of a road in the climatic conditions the Almaty city located in the south-eastern region of Kazakhstan. Monitoring of temperature in the road was carried out using a special measuring system. It was found that the largest amount of FTCs, equal to 76, occurs on the pavement surface and decreases with depth (up to 6 at a depth of 28 cm); the absolute value of the lowest minimum temperature of FTCs also decreases with depth: -17.9 °C on the pavement surface and –0.3 °C at a depth of 69 cm. The depth of 21.5 cm is designated as the boundary, above which the FTCs characteristics are determined by daily temperature fluctuations and below which they are determined by seasonal and annual temperature fluctuations; at the boundary depth the maximum, minimum and average durations of FTCs have the greatest values (1039.5, 3.3 and 521.4, respectively). In the region under consideration and in others with similar climatic conditions, when assessing the strength and durability of asphalt concretes taking into account cyclic freezing and thawing, it is recommended to assign the amount and minimum temperature of FTCs according to the results obtained in the paper; the duration of FTCs is taken to be equal to 20 h; it is recommended to conduct laboratory tests on asphalt concrete samples when they are fully saturated with water.

Urban air pollution driven by road traffic poses a significant public health challenge in cities with high vehicle density and frequent congestion, particularly in topographically constrained environments such as Almaty, Kazakhstan. This study presents a web-based digital twin prototype for the integrated monitoring and analysis of traffic flow and air quality in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The system autonomously collects data from the TomTom Traffic, OpenWeather Air Pollution, and WAQI APIs and official population statistics for five fixed monitoring stations, computing traffic density, vehicles per hour, road congestion, estimated CO2 emissions, an air pollution index, and a population exposure index, and providing real-time dashboard visualization alongside longitudinal data accumulation. Over a 50-day deployment (26 May–16 July 2026), 4961 real co-located observations across 18 active days were analyzed; records generated by the prototype’s fallback mechanism during API outages were excluded from the scientific analysis. During this summer period, PM2.5 was low (mean ≈ 6 µg/m3) and spatially uniform, and showed no statistically significant association with traffic intensity (r ≈ −0.03). Traffic indicators were instead weakly but significantly correlated with the vehicle-emitted gases NO2 (r ≈ 0.16) and CO (r ≈ 0.10), which they preceded by up to about one hour. A short-horizon PM2.5 nowcasting task, evaluated across temporal resolutions with time-series cross-validation, was dominated by temporal persistence, with traffic-derived features contributing negligibly. The absence of a summer traffic–PM2.5 association does not preclude such a relationship during the heating season, when particulate levels are higher. The results indicate that the traffic–air-quality relationship in Almaty is season- and pollutant-dependent, and demonstrate a lightweight, reproducible platform suitable for longitudinal monitoring and future heating-season assessment.

In this paper an experimental study and comparative analysis of temperature and moisture in pavements and their soil bases on experimental road sections located in two southern metropolises of Kazakhstan—in the cities of Almaty and Shymkent—were conducted. The temperature and moisture values were measured by systems for long-term continuous monitoring of temperature and moisture in structural elements of roads. Sensors were installed at ten locations within the pavements and soil bases at depths ranging from 2.5 cm to 270–275 cm below the pavement surfaces. The temperature and moisture monitoring period extends from 21 October 2024 to 31 December 2025. Temperature and moisture readings were recorded hourly. It has been established that the temperature conditions of pavements and their soil bases in the two cities are qualitatively the same, and the quantitative differences are small: air temperatures and soil temperatures at depths of 2.5 cm and 10 cm in Shymkent are higher than in Almaty by an average of 4.75 °C, 5.69 °C and 2.12 °C, respectively. These facts make it possible to use a single methodological approach to account for temperature changes in the design of new roads and in the operation of existing roads. It is recommended to pay attention to ensuring the resistance to rutting and fatigue cracking of asphalt concrete layers of pavement. The moisture regime at the experimental section in Almaty up to 130–140 cm depth is unstable due to seepage of precipitation and surface water through the stone mastic and the two coarse-grained porous asphalt concrete layers of the pavement; in Shymkent the pavement and the soil base have a stable moisture regime throughout the year; these features should be taken into account when calculating accumulations of plastic strains (increasing of rut depth) and fatigue damage in asphalt concrete layers of pavements while also accounting for temperature changes in them and transport facility loads in different time periods.
