Understanding Barriers and Supports for Women’s Progression in STEM in Kazakhstan(2025-01-01)Abstract Based on the theoretical taxonomy of supports and barriers and Social Cognitive Career theory, this chapter contributes to the existing literature on STEM women’s pathways by qualitatively examining environmental supports and barriers that girls and women experience in all developmental stages, from childhood to professional life. The overarching purpose of this chapter is to synthesize and summarize the multidimensional barriers that affect, impede, or prevent girls and women from choosing STEM educational/career trajectories and the supports that facilitate their advancement and retention in STEM career trajectories across three developmental stages: childhood, adolescence (high school and university study), and adulthood (professional life). A core finding from this study is that women are strongly dependent on external social agents, such as parents, teachers, peers, employers, and spouses, in all developmental stages, who can play a dual role, either supporting the girls’ and young women’s interest in STEM and providing mentorship or discouraging them from being engaged with STEM.
Women in Leadership in Education in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan(2025-01-01); Abstract This paper summarizes the results of a study that explored the experiences of female leaders in Central Asian academia using empirical data from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The study uses a comprehensive theoretical framework combining Human Capital, Gender Role, Gendered Organization, Professionalization, and Intersectionality perspectives, derived from prior research on the topic. It relies on qualitative phenomenological case study design analyzing data from 30 semi-structured interviews with women leaders from the two countries. The study reveals the relevance of Institutional theory to complement the theoretical framework arising from prior research. Implications of the results of the study are discussed in terms of their relevance for global research on the topic and for domestic policies aimed at promoting the representation and advancement of women in the labor force and leadership in particular.
Study of the influence of gamma irradiation on ferrite-spinel monocrystals(2023-12-12); ; ; ;S. ErtürkG. N. ShinikulovaThe mechanisms of redistribution of metal ions and the formation of defects in ferrite spinel upon irradiation are complex and depend on a number of factors. Therefore, computer simulations and experimental studies are important for understanding the behavior of the physical properties of these materials under the influence of radiation. The development of new materials that can withstand radiation damage is of great importance for a range of applications, including solid state physics, nuclear physics, space research and medical applications. In this work, the effect of gamma irradiation on Co0,75Cu0,25Fe2O4 ferrite single crystals has been investigated. An earlier study using Mössbauer spectroscopy was carried out to determine the changes in the metal ion content in the sublattices of ferrite spinels. These changes affect the magnetic crystallographic anisotropy of the material [1]. Data can be found in the scientific literature that indicate that gamma irradiation leads to changes in the magnetic susceptibility of materials and to changes in the magnetization curve [2,3]. These changes in physical properties can be explained by redistribution of metal ions in octahedral and tetrahedral sublattices, since metal ions in sublattices have splitting of atomic levels.
Exploring Attitudes Toward “Sugar Relationships” Across 87 Countries: A Global Perspective on Exchanges of Resources for Sex and Companionship(Springer Science+Business Media, 2023-12-21) ;Norbert Meskó ;Marta Kowal ;András Láng ;Ferenc KocsorSzabolcs Ajtony BandiThe current study investigates attitudes toward one form of sex for resources: the so-called sugar relationships, which often involve exchanges of resources for sex and/or companionship. The present study examined associations among attitudes toward sugar relationships and relevant variables (e.g., sex, sociosexuality, gender inequality, parasitic exposure) in 69,924 participants across 87 countries. Two self-report measures of Acceptance of Sugar Relationships (ASR) developed for younger companion providers (ASR-YWMS) and older resource providers (ASR-OMWS) were translated into 37 languages. We tested cross-sex and cross-linguistic construct equivalence, cross-cultural invariance in sex differences, and the importance of the hypothetical predictors of ASR. Both measures showed adequate psychometric properties in all languages (except the Persian version of ASR-YWMS). Results partially supported our hypotheses and were consistent with previous theoretical considerations and empirical evidence on human mating. For example, at the individual level, sociosexual orientation, traditional gender roles, and pathogen prevalence were significant predictors of both ASR-YWMS and ASR-OMWS. At the country level, gender inequality and parasite stress positively predicted the ASR-YWMS. However, being a woman negatively predicted the ASR-OMWS, but positively predicted the ASR-YWMS. At country-level, ingroup favoritism and parasite stress positively predicted the ASR-OMWS. Furthermore, significant cross-subregional differences were found in the openness to sugar relationships (both ASR-YWMS and ASR-OMWS scores) across subregions. Finally, significant differences were found between ASR-YWMS and ASR-OMWS when compared in each subregion. The ASR-YWMS was significantly higher than the ASR-OMWS in all subregions, except for Northern Africa and Western Asia.
(2023-12-29) ;Zifa Kakbaevna Temirgazina ;Olga Konstantinovna AndryuchshenkoIntroduction. The influence of the Russian poetic tradition on works of Bakhytzhan Kanapyanov is a well-known fact. However, his poetry, particularly topographical lyrics, has also been influenced by Japanese culture and literature. Goals. The article attempts an insight into landscape lyrics of the Kazakh poet from how it reflects the Japanese philosophy of landscape, most fully expressed in the genres of haiku and tanka. Results. Using the structural-semiotic method, the work reveals that B. Kanapyanov’s landscape poetry is based on the Japanese principle — ‘the beauty of the moment’ which demonstrates the eternity of nature. Just like the Japanese masters of haiku and tanka, B. Kanapyanov depicts nature in small, insignificant details through human sensations and perceptions. Often these sensations complement each\ other: smells and sights, hearings and visions, etc. Traditional Japanese landscape symbolism, e.g. the moon, gets transformed in the poet’s artistic picture of the world depending on his ideological precepts. The Japanese poetic technique also influenced the formal side of B. Kanapyanov’s poetry: preference for syllabic versification, loose adherence to meter and rhyme. Such a significant influence of Japanese culture and literature is explained by the common philosophical attitude to nature among the Kazakh and the Japanese, namely: principles of unity of man and nature, harmonious coexistence of man and nature, and non-interference of man in nature. The syllabic type of versification is also characteristic of not only Japanese but also of the Kazakh language.
The Development of Moral Values of School Children with Visual Impairments Folk Music(State University of Semarang, 2023-12-30); ;Butabayeva Laura Askarovna; ; The relevance of the presented paper is conditioned upon the fact that today, the subject of the development of moral values in children with visual impairment through musical motifs of folklore is a very understudied issue. However, based on the statistics of the World Health Organisation for 2021, about 2.2 billion people worldwide have visual impairments. The purpose of this paper is to study the features of the psychological and pedagogical characteristics of children with visual impairments, their moral development, and the development of ways of spiritual and moral education through folk music. To achieve this purpose, the following methods were used: analysis, synthesis, comparison, induction, statistical analysis, and deduction. In particular, the method of statistical analysis of sources of American, Kazakh, and Russian researchers within the boundaries of the subject was used. The practical basis was the statistical data of the WHO company for 2021. The result of the study was a complete analysis of the statistics of children with visual impairment in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The study’s main conclusion is that modern methods of teaching children with visual impairment are based on the musical accompaniment of educational activities since the musical form allows the development of moral values. Visually impaired students are characterised by insufficient development of the visual-imaginative level of mental activity, which determines the uniqueness of specific conceptual thinking due to visual perception disorders and limited visual experience. The alienation of a child with visual impairments from others entails secrecy and lack of communication, which can be expressed in a large volume of complexes in the future. The applied value of this paper lies in the development of recommendations for improving the system of pedagogical education of children with visual impairment through folklore-applied developmental classes.
Central Asia in a changing world: Understanding the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflictThis study aims to analyze the geopolitical realignments and economic repercussions in Central Asia that have resulted from the Russo-Ukrainian conflict.Specifically, it explores the challenges that have emerged in the established relations between Russia and the Central Asian states, with a focus on the concerns over dependence on Russia. The imposition of Western sanctions on Russia has had a complex impact on trade relations and economic conditions in the region, prompting the Central Asian states to reconsider their ties with other global actors. The study employs a qualitative methodology to examine the political, economic, and security aspects of these relationships, drawing on empirical data, official statements, and scholarly literature. The findings highlight notable shifts in the geopolitical self-perception and diplomatic postures of the Central Asian countries, indicating a growing sense of independence and agency in international affairs. However, the declining influence of Russia exposes potential risks and opens the door for other global powers to step in.Consequently, the paper argues for Central Asian leadership to develop a comprehensive and strategic understanding of these dynamics to balance immediate benefits with long-term regional stability and prosperity.
