The article provides a comparative analysis of the flora and endemism of the western and eastern part of the Ketpen-Temerlik range in Kazakhstan and China, which is the eastern tip of the Northern Tian Shan. The flora of the entire Ketpen-Temerlik range includes 1890 species of vascular plants belonging to 593 genera and 120 families. In the western part of the ridge (in Kazakhstan), 1747 species were identified, belonging to 585 genera and 111 families and in the eastern part (in China), 1673 species belonging to 577 genera and 117 families.Angiosperms make up 98.4% of the ridge flora, 80.0% of which are dicotyledonous and 18.5% are monocotyledonous. The analysis of the largest flora families of the entire Ketpen-Temerlik range allowed us to identify 28 of the largest families by the largest number of species. The families with the largest number of species are Asteraceae (308 species), Poaceae (166), Fabaceae (133), Brassicaceae (105), Caryophyllaceae (93), Rosaceae (90), Lamiaceae (81), Chenopodiaceae (75), Ranunculaceae (74) and Scrophulariaceae (57).The major genera are Astragalus (43 species), Artemisia (38), Taraxacum (34), Carex (33), Allium (33), Potentilla (31), Ranunculus (22), Oxytropis (21), Veronica (20), Poa (18), and Saussurea (18).

The purpose of this article is to present the developed methodology, a brief algorithm of mechanical-and-mathematical modeling to investigate the causes and mechanism of soil disruption from the hillsides and the results of its use for restoring the pre-landslide stress state using the example of one of the tragic landslides. The numerical finite element algorithm of studying the stress–strain state (SSS) of soil deposits of slopes of the inclined-layered structure is briefly described, with specific features of the use of isoparametric elements of the quadrangular shape with four nodes of arbitrary shape. For detailed studying the SSS, the cover soils of the steep slope of the inclined-layered structure, in height from the arch to the foot, are conventionally divided into three zones, each of which has layered structures. Studies of the geometry of its area and the angle of inclination of the slope showed that the two-layer structure of its original structure made a curved path repeating the outline of the gorge. The finite element method helped to model the soil deposits of the slope with the granite-basalt rock as close as possible to the landslide initial shape. The proposed methodology, the mechanical-mathematical model, algorithms and calculation examples allow predicting the possible occurrence of landslides on other countless hillsides of the Northern Tien Shan by determining stress concentration zones.

This article presents the results of a comprehensive assessment of the ecological status of populations of the rare endemic species Schmalhausenia nidulans native to the high-mountain regions of the Northern Tien Shan. The aim of the study was to investigate the current state of the species populations by analyzing their numbers, ontogenetic structure, morphometric parameters, and anatomical features. Two natural populations of the species were examined: the first population, located on the Uzynkara Ridge at an altitude of 3003 m above sea level, and the second population, growing on the Ile-Alatau Ridge at an altitude of 3260 m above sea level. During the field research, the population size, age structure, and morphological traits of individuals at the juvenile, immature, virginal, and generative stages of development were studied, and an anatomical analysis of the stem structure was also conducted.

Abstract. Turgara Z, Ametov A, Kenesbay A, Imanova E, Sypabekkyzy G, Osmonali B. 2026. Adaptive morpho-anatomical traits of Euphorbia yaroslavii populations in the Zailiysky Alatau, Kazakhstan. Biodiversitas 27 (6): d270604. https://doi.org/10.13057/biodiv/d270604. Euphorbia yaroslavii is a narrow-range endemic of the northern Tien Shan, restricted to foothill steppe and clayey habitats of the Zailiysky Alatau, Kazakhstan and is insufficiently studied in terms of morphological and anatomical variability. This study aimed to evaluate interpopulation variation in morphological, anatomical, and seed micromorphological traits of E. yaroslavii under contrasting ecological conditions. Three spatially isolated populations were analyzed using a comparative approach that included morphometric measurements of vegetative and generative organs, anatomical investigation of leaf, stem, and root structures, and scanning electron microscopy of seed surfaces. The results showed pronounced interpopulation differentiation mainly in vegetative morphology and anatomical structure. The greatest variability was recorded in leaf thickness, mesophyll organization, and development of conductive tissues, reflecting habitat-related environmental differences. In contrast, generative traits, including cyathium and seed dimensions, were relatively stable. ANOVA confirmed significant differences (p<0.05) in most vegetative and anatomical parameters, whereas reproductive traits showed no significant differences. Correlation analysis revealed coordinated variation among structural traits of different organs. Population differentiation in E. yaroslavii is primarily expressed in vegetative and anatomical features, while reproductive traits remain stable. These findings provide a quantitative framework for understanding adaptive variation and support population-based conservation strategies for this endemic species.
